Woman killed by DelDOT plow truck ID'd

BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, Del. - January 27, 2011

Police say 51-year-old Denise McFadden of Wilmington was struck around 6:30 a.m. on the Washington Street Extension, just off Philadelphia Pike in front of Delaware State Police Troop 1.

McFadden was walking along the road when she was hit by a DelDOT plow truck and instantly killed.

According to investigators, the driver of the plow, 37-year-old Shawn Griner of Wilmington, was making a u-turn from westbound Washington Street Extension to the eastbound side.

McFadden was hit while the truck was making the u-turn.

The crash is still under investigation, police said, and there was no word yet on if Griner would be charged.

Washington Street Extension was blocked between Philadelphia Pike and Marsh Road while investigators remained on the scene. The roadway has since reopened.
