3rd malfuction in 3 weeks closes Pa. ski lift

PLUM, Pa. - January 30, 2011

The lifts at the county-owned park about 15 miles east of Pittsburgh stalled at around 8 p.m. Saturday for about an hour. Skiers were lowered to the ground using ropes.

No injuries were reported.

The ski lifts malfunctioned twice earlier this month when a lift cable came off a guide wheel. A county deputy director said then that workers spoke with the lift's manufacturer to solve the problem.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the county has now closed the lift until further notice.
