Police say someone grabbed an elderly woman's purse in a grocery store parking lot then dragged her during the getaway.

It happened in the parking lot of the Shop Rite store on West Newport Pike in Stanton, Delaware around 1:45 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses tell police that the 77-year-old victim was putting groceries in her car when another woman got out of a beige van and grabbed her purse.

During the struggle, the victim and the suspect both fell toward the open passenger side door of the van, with the suspect falling inside, but the elderly victim was still with her.

The driver of the van then hit the gas, dragging the elderly woman. She said her legs and hands were run over by the fleeing van. The victim was taken to Christiana Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman who took the purse was described as a white female between 30 and 40 years old. The driver was only described as a white male.
