The leak was reported around 7:11 a.m. Tuesday on the 3100 block of G Street.
A PGW crew responded within minutes and evacuated a eleven homes, some of which were vacant, in the immediate area as a precaution. A total of fifteen people were then taken to a nearby school until it was determined it was safe for them to return to their homes.
The investigation revealed that there was a theft from one of the vacant homes, resulting in a gas leak.
Crews were able to turn off the gas and neighboring resident were allowed back into their homes.
