Icy conditions greet winter-weary Pennsylvania

PHILADELPHIA - February 2, 2011

The icy precipitation coated trees and utility lines in Philadelphia's northern and western suburbs, leaving about 40,000 Peco customers without power Wednesday morning.

PPL reported another 20,000 customers without power in an 18-county area of central and eastern Pennsylvania.

Drivers face treacherous conditions with some areas dealing with a combination of icy roadways and standing water along with downed trees and utility lines. PennDOT reduced speed limits for Interstates across the state in response to the storm.

Schools across much of the state delayed opening with a wide stretch of districts stretching from Allentown to the New York border opting to close entirely.
