Fire erupts across street from brownout firehouse

STRAWBERRY MANSION - February 6, 2011

The fire broke out shortly after 11:00 p.m. in a home on the 2400 block of North 26th Street in the city's Strawberry Mansion section - directly across the street from the firehouse of Engine 45 and Ladder 14.

Firefighters tell Action News that a resident came running up to the firehouse to alert them of the fire.

Crews battled the flames for about 20 minutes before getting the upper hand on the blaze.

Firefighters rescued one man from the burning house. He was transported to Temple University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition after being treated for smoke inhalation and burns.

The firehouse is on the brownout list but was manned at the time of the fire.

So far, no word on what may have sparked the blaze.
