The fire broke out around 12:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of Yates Avenue. When firefighters arrived they found heavy black smoke pouring from a home and neighbors going door to door with police working to evacuate other neighbors from the row homes.
Flames quickly got the best of the home and local firefighters called in other crews for help - even a crew from New Castle County in Delaware.
The neighbor, an elderly woman, was able to escape her home as it filled with smoke. She was not injured.
There is no word yet on what sparked the blaze.
