A website to help consumers save money on bills

February 16, 2011

And with PECO announcing that electricity rates for consumers will go up this April - this free service comes just in time.

The website is called AlphaBuyer, and it is group buying for your bills.

It's free to join, and has the potential to save you money on your necessities, from electricity to natural gas, to gas for your car, mobile telephone and internet service, and eventually even cable television.

The Snyder family uses natural gas for their fireplace and to heat their home. They had no idea they had the option to switch natural gas suppliers. But when they discovered they could switch companies for a lower rate, they jumped at the opportunity.

"For us, if we were going to switch, we wanted to see a significant savings," said Dave Snyder. "And we expect to save annually close to $75."

Enough money to pay another bill! Dave Snyder made the switch by using AlphaBuyer.com.

"It couldn't have been a more pain-free process. And it was free, too," said Dave Snyder.

AlphaBuyer negotiates offers for services you pay every month.

"We post offers that are only the most favorable on behalf of consumers," said Kevin Johnson.

And after you enroll in a particular offer, AlphaBuyer takes care of actually switching you to your new provider. You don't have to do a thing.

"And the benefits include you get better terms and conditions and you get better prices, and that will only improve as your group gets bigger and bigger and bigger," said Johnson.

For example, PECO just announced the average customer will pay an average of $.30 more a month starting April 1st.

Right now AlphaBuyer is offering a 12-month fixed deal with alternate electric supplier, Spark Energy.

If one to 20 people sign up for the deal, the rate is $8.93 per kilowatt hour. But if 41 people or more sign up, the price gets even lower, down to $8.85 per kilowatt hour. That's a savings of 13% from the PECO price.

"Prior to the 12-month expiration of your new offer, we'll communicate with you whether there's a better offer than what you're in right now," explained Johnson.
