Man shot in drive-by shooting outside S. Phila bar

SOUTH PHILADELPHIA - February 17, 2011

The drive-by shooting happened about 1:20 on Thursday morning, outside Earl's Place at the corner of 23rd Street and Snyder Avenue.

Police tell Action News that the 29-year-old walked into Earls Bar and ordered food. He then walked outside of the bar and sat in a red Ford Focus to wait for his order.

Police say a man then approached the victim's car and knocked on the window. That's when another man walked up to the vehicle, pulled out a gun and started shooting into the car.

The gunman and his alleged accomplice then jumped into a car and drove off.

The wounded man managed to get out of the vehicle and staggered into the bar, where someone called police.

He was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where he is in critical condition.

Police have interviewed witnesses to try to get a description of the gunman and the car he was in.
