Le Pain Quotidien

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - February 22, 2011

Visit Le Pain Quotidien and you'll see and taste!

The chain has cafes in many countries. They're big in New York City and Washington, D.C., but the new location at 1425 Walnut Street is their first in Philadelphia.

General manager Jacqueline Robles came down from New York to run the place and she's enthusiastic about being in town.

Robles says the menu, both meals and baked goods, features many organic items and a lot of vegan choices.

Bread selections include wheat, rye and multi-grain. Some come baked in the traditional round boule while others are in the familiar French baguette.

For Philadelphia, they've created a new three-grain baguette that's doing well.

The company also updated its croissant recipe, which debuted here. And there are many other pastry choices.

The selection of toppings for your purchase ranges from jams and honeys to spreads with sun-dried tomatoes or olives.

At breakfast and brunch, the kitchen turns out a selection of omelettes.

For lunch, there is a daily soup and several salads.

Le Pain Quotidien also offers its signature tartines, open-faced sandwiches cut into five finger-friendly wedges.

The Philadelphia location is the first to offer dinner, and in addition to soup, salad and tartines, you can get full-sized entrees.

As you might expect, a café featuring bread and pastry has to offer beverages. Hot choices include coffee, tea and chocolate, all served in generous European-style bowls.

Everything is available to go, and you can buy jams and honey in jars to take home.

The Philadelphia location offers casual dining seven days a week.
