3 shot at Ridley Twp. 'nuisance bar'

WOODLYN, Pa. - February 20, 2011

Ridley police say an argument erupted between two men around 3:00 a.m Sunday inside the R-S Club.

Authorities say one man pulled a gun and began firing, striking two women and a man.

All three were rushed to local hospitals.

Meanwhile, police say they were left with yet another problem from the club.

Vangie Cruise lives in the Ventura Apartments behind the bar.

"You come up around 2-3 in the morning, you'll see these kids sitting right up in there...doing drugs and drinking," Cruise said.

She echoes police complaints that it's a nuisance.

"I know they have a lot of underage children there and it's very rowdy," Cruise said.

Investigators say a night before the shooting officers had to call for backup after patrons began throwing bottles at them.

Police brass say they've had enough and will begin working with the Liquor Control Board to shut it down.

The R-S Club claims to be a membership only bar, allowing it to serve alcohol past 2:00 a.m., but several people told Action News off camera that most people aren't members.

Action News spoke to the owner of the bar, John Marusco, by phone. He declined an on-camera interview, but, basically said one person ruined it for everyone and denied his bar is a nuisance.

Detectives have not yet made an arrest in the shooting, but say they have leads, despite the fact that victims are unwilling to cooperate with them.

Cruise feels there is only one thing to do.

"They need to shut it down. Bottom line, they need to shut that R-S Club down," Cruise said.
