Last week the New Castle County Safe Streets Task Force received information about ongoing drug activity in and around the Abbey Walk Apartment complex in Newark, Delaware.
The taskforce learned that one of the suspects was a probation absconder, identified as 39-year-old Steven Fenton.
On Tuesday, officers responded to the Abbey Lane Apartment complex to confront Fenton. When they arrived, they knocked and heard someone lock the door from the inside.
Officers then surrounded the apartment, announced their presence, and as they waited outside, Fenton walked into the hallway and was immediately taken into custody.
Police announced their presence for a second time. That's when a man identified as Luis Rivera, 27, opened the door and was taken into custody without incident.
During a search of the apartment, officers located 24 bundles of heroin (330 bags), 4.5 grams of marijuana, a digital scale and a large knife. The majority of the heroin was found hidden inside the heater system of the apartment and an additional four of the bundles inside a sock that had been stuffed down the toilet.
