A food fight with no boundary

BIRD-IN-HAND, Pa. (AP) - February 28, 2011

Maine legislators want to make the creamy snacks the state's official treat.

But bakers in Pennsylvania's Lancaster County say no way.

They contend the whoopie pie was first cooked up by Amish families generations ago.

The good-natured pie fight led to a recent rally in downtown Lancaster that drew 100 people.

Maine state lawmaker Paul Davis says he never thought his proposal would draw such heat.
