6abc Loves the Arts: Paris through the window

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - March 6, 2011

The exhibit includes 75 paintings and sculptures by Chagall and his contemporaries. The signature piece is Chagall's masterpiece, Paris Through the window, a work on rare loan by the Guggenheim Museum.

When Chagall first arrived in Paris in 1911, he dabbled in Cubism, the leading movement of the time. But he quickly found his own style.

Chagall emigrated to Paris on the eve of Fascism. He and his contemporaries, mainly Eastern European Jews, came to be known as the school of Paris.

Marc Chagall and his Circle is the first event opening of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, a citywide celebration of creativity that was inspired by the convergence of artists in Paris a century ago.

The exhibit will be at the Philadelphia Museum of Art's Perelman Building from March 1st through July 10th. You can go to http://www.philamuseum.org/ for tickets.
