Ex-teacher pleads guilty in Philly laptop thefts

PHILADELPHIA - March 9, 2011

Thirty-five-year-old Kathleen Kremis apologized Tuesday for stealing the computers from Ethan Allen Elementary School as she pleaded guilty to theft and conspiracy charges.

Kremis said she used stole the computers to support her heroin habit. He ex-husband, 38-year-old Thomas Perry, blamed the high cost of his medical care.

Kremis and Perry were sentenced to at least six months in prison but were immediately paroled. Kremis will go to a drug rehab center and Perry, who needs a double hip-replacement, faces house arrest.

Police learned of the thefts after a pawn shop owner discovered School District of Philadelphia seals concealed by stickers. All 45 laptops were recovered.
