Uncle arrested after boy, 2, found wandering

CHESTER TWP., Pa. - March 9, 2011

20-year-old Jamil Hayden is charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child.

A neighbor found the boy wandering the neighborhood around 9:00 a.m. She told police, when she found him, he was about to run into the middle of the street in front of a school bus.

The boy, who was wearing only pants and shoes, was shivering when he was found, investigators said.

"He was visibly shaking due to the cold weather this morning," said Chief Kenneth Coalson of the Chester Township Police. "We called medics to check him."

About an hour later police got a call reporting a door open at the boy's home. They responded and found Hayden asleep on the couch, just a few feet from the front door.

"We asked him 'Do you know why we're here?' and was he babysitting anyone? He said 'Yeah, isn't the kid playing outside?'" said Chief Coalson. "He was oblivious to what was going on."

The boy's mother, who was at work when this all happened, was reportedly very upset the child was left unattended. She is now working with the children and youth services to get him back.
