Gorilla's need physicals too

BROOKFIELD, Ill. (AP) - March 11, 2011

Carefully and with a sedative.

Vets at a Chicago-area zoo have given check-ups to a pair of big apes, a 250-pound grandma and a six-year-old.

Officials at the Brookfield Zoo say both animals are healthy.

The physicals included heart ultrasounds, chest X-rays and dental exams.

The animals were given sedatives before the check-ups.

The grandma gorilla was in the news 15 years ago.

You may remember the story.

She gently cradled a 3-year-old boy in her arms, after he fell into the gorilla pit.

He was rescued unharmed.
