The accident occurred just before 2:00 a.m. on Montgomery Drive near the entrance to the Belmont Plateau.
Police say the driver of a Volvo traveling south on Montgomery Drive crossed over the center line and struck a Suzuki head-on, then a Ford SUV ran into the rear of the Suzuki.
The crash sent four adults to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania with serious injuries. Two girls, ages 6 and 9, who were seated in the rear of the Suzuki, were taken to Children's Hospital in critical but stable condition. The girls were not wearing safety belts when the crash occurred.
Montgomery Drive was closed for approximately an hour while police were on scene.
