Local mother tells how she manages with multiples

PENN VALLEY, Pa. - June 2, 2011

There's another local family with a very full house!

Nicole Veith says her life with two-year-old quadruplets, Emmie, Katherine, Ben and John and two older sons, Owen and Jake, ages 5 and 7, is more than a challenge.

Nicole went from two to six kids in an instant.

"I think once you have more than one, it's all sort of the same," Nicole said.

The quads were born at Lankenau Hospital; each was more than four pounds, unlike most quadruplets, who are born premature.

Nicole says their personalities are the same as they were in the womb.

"This one, Katherine was definitely the most aggressive. Ben and Kate were very calm, and they always called John the acrobat.

The quads will be two at the end of August.

Nicole's husband, Stephen is a commercial airline pilot. She doesn't have live-in help. A nurse comes in twice a week, and Stephanie, a family friend, chips in.

And of course there are big brothers, Jake and Owen.

"They are such amazing big brothers, and they are so helpful, and the babies love them," says Nicole.

"Sometimes the boys and me and Owen, we play tag in the living room," said 7 year old Jake.

"Whenever we tag them, they start laughing," said 5 year old Owen.

Nicole says bedtime is between 6:30 and 7:00pm, and they wake up between 7:00 and 8:00am in the morning, usually sleeping for 12 hours. She said they got some helpful advice to keep them on a schedule.

"They sleep and they sleep well. You wear them out during the day," Nicole said.
