Police needs help with Frankford hit and run

PHILADELPHIA - March 18, 2011

The four year old remains in critical condition at St. Christopher's Hospital Friday night, but while his family seeks help from doctors, police are seeking help from the public to track down the driver who hit this child, then sped away.

The car police need your help finding is a silver Lincoln Town Car investigators say stuck a four year old child in the 1600 block of Pratt Street in Philadelphia's Frankford section.

According to police, the accident happened at 8:20am Friday morning. The driver was caught on surveillance camera hitting the boy, then stopping for mere seconds, before speeding away without ever getting out of the car.

Cars were filmed on the street, even one motorcycle, routinely sped through, some not even pausing at the stop sign at the end of the road.

"They going back and forth so quick," said Betsy Pagan. "This area is not safe at all."

Though most neighbors declined to speak on camera, everyone I spoke with agreed with Betsy Pagan, suggesting that while a hit and run is horrifying, someone was bound to be hit sometime.

Pratt Street is a well known cut through between the Boulevard and 95; a high traffic, fast traffic area to which the 4 year old and his family had apparently just moved.

"It's dangerous out here, they should be driving slower. There are a lot of kids around this neighborhood," said Pagan.

Captured by a camera directly across the street from the victim's home, the Lincoln Town car is described as about a 2004 model, silver, with tinted rear and passenger windows, as well as a tinted sunroof. The car may be marked as a limousine or service vehicle, and may carry a license plate beginning with the letters "LM."

If you have any information on the whereabouts of that car or its driver, Philadelphia police want to hear from you at 215-685-3180, or by submitting an anonymous tip online at Phillypolice.com.

The family remains inside this hospital, hoping their young child is able to make a recovery.
