2 plead in Philly armored car robbery, shooting

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 21, 2011

Forty-six-year-old Anthony Reid and 54-year-old Brian Williams pleaded guilty Monday to robbery, attempted murder, conspiracy and assault on police officers. Under plea agreements, both face 25- to 50-year prison terms.

Authorities said the two robbed an armored car guard of $100,000 at a west Philadelphia gas station in September 2009 and led police on a 10-mile chase that ended in a shootout in southwest Philadelphia. Officer Adrian Hospedale, a 17-year veteran hit by a ricocheting bullet, said he was happy about the pleas. He recovered and returned to work in January 2010.

Williams has been sentenced to 30 years in federal court in the robbery. Reid is awaiting sentencing.
