Ex-Pa. town official denies stealing checks

MEDIA, Pa. - March 23, 2011

Former Yeadon finance director Terri Phifer Vaughn told a Delaware County judge on Tuesday that she is a law-abiding citizen and denied taking more than $65,000 in checks intended for the borough.

The Delaware County Daily Times reports Judge Michael Coll chided Vaughn for not taking responsibility for the crime before sentencing her to 12 to 24 months in jail.

A jury convicted Vaughn last month of theft and unlawful use of a computer. Vaughn says she doesn't know what happened to the money.

Vaughn must repay the town more than $17,000. Checks totaling about $50,000 were already reissued to the borough.
