DA: Suspect in killing of pizza shop owner has died

TELFORD, Pa. - March 23, 2011

They now consider the case closed.

Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman said Wednesday that Jose Antonia Pais was the suspect in the February, 2009 beating death of Antonio Lombardo, who owned Lisa's Pizza in Telford.

Police say Pais beat Lombardo to death with a heavy-duty espresso machine.

Police said Pais told them he did it because of something Lombardo, 60, said about him, but police could not find any evidence to support this claim.

Eight days after the homicide, police said Pais left the country and went home to Guatemala.

Ferman said authorities have been attempting to locate and arrest Pais since the homicide.

She said he died in a fall at a construction site before he could be apprehended. It was unclear when the fall occurred.

An employee found Lombardo's body inside the pizza shop. Lombardo had been in business there for more than 20 years.
