Daughters of Rutledge Mayor remember Dad

RUTLEDGE, Pa. - March 26, 2011

Action New reporter David Henry talked exclusively with the daughters of Mayor Scott Shields.

The flag flies at half staff at Rutledge Borough Hall in Delaware County on Saturday.

45 year old Scott Shields had been the town's mayor for the past 5 years. He died yesterday pursuing his passion, skydiving.

Shields leaves behind three young daughters.

"He was amazing. There aren't really any words for it. He was just an awesome guy," says Deborah Shields.

9-year-old Alexis, 17-year-old Deborah, and 8-year-old Olivia remember a dad always on the go, living life to the fullest.

Scott Shields was an attorney in Media, but a daredevil who went full speed ahead in his spare time.

Deborah went sky diving with him, and Alexis was also ready to take the plunge.

"I was going to in Mexico if my mom would sign my passport. It really looks cool, but I don't know," said daughter Olivia.

"He was crazy," said daughter Deborah. "He would be saying that right now too. He loved his skydiving, and he would do anything to do it every day."

Shields served on Borough council in Rutledge before being elected Mayor in 2006. That is something his daughters are most proud of.

"He's always going to be with us, and we're always going to be with him," said Deborah.

And they will always have the good times to treasure, like the time they were learning to dive off their dad's boat; memories that will never fade away for the daughters of Mayor Scott Shields.
