Family seeks help in Olney teen's murder

PHILADELPHIA - March 26, 2011

"I promised him we're going to find who did this because some coward out there, they had nothing better to do than to take my only son's life," said the victim's mother, Rosalia Maldonado.

A broken-hearted Rosalia Maldonado plans to keep the promise she made to her dying son; to find his killer.

It happened January 16, 2011, shortly after 12:30am in the 400 block of West Tabor Road in Olney.

19-year old Jose Maldonado was walking home when someone came from behind, shot him in the head and robbed him. He later died of his injuries.

Jose was also called Joselito and Papa by friends and family. He won numerous awards in school, and was about to embark on a landscaping career with his father.

"I even have awards where he was so smart, so smart. He has an outstanding landscaper's award," said Rosalia.

Jose was also an organ donor. The night he died, he saved three lives.

One man received his heart and lungs, another man received his liver, and a woman received his kidneys.

His mother has received letters from all three recipients.

"All these people are grateful to my son, my son Papa. I miss him so much," Rosalia said.

An unidentified taxi driver came to Jose's aid that night. Rosalia says his quick action gave her a chance to get to the hospital in time to say goodbye.

"I'm so glad and grateful to you, whoever you are, for calling the ambulance," said Rosalia. "I miss my baby so much."

There is a $2,000 reward for information that might lead to an arrest in Jose Maldonado's murder. The number to call is 215-546-TIPS.
