Flames, smoke released from Sunoco plant in Marcus Hook

MARCUS HOOK - March 28, 2011

The power failure happened around 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Delaware County refinery.

Sunoco tells Action News that the power outage was brief. The power was back on in seconds, according to officials. Still, the refinery needs to shut down and start back up. Sunoco says pressure needed to be released in order to shut down the affected processing units.

The pressure release led to the flames and smoke.

No evacuations have been ordered and no injuries have been reported.

No time estimation was given for when the refinery will be back up following the shut down.
