Tests show normal radiation levels in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. - March 29, 2011

The state Environmental Protection Department says the tests show normal radioactivity levels through Monday.

DEP spokesman Larry Ragonese told The Record newspaper contamination from rainwater would likely be detected because the DEP samples surface waters around the state's nuclear plants.

Ragonese says samples were recently collected over the weekend. He says the DEP will increase sampling to twice a week.

The Environmental Protection Agency monitors the air for radiation at its offices in Edison. Levels were normal Monday.
