Weight loss doctor accused of indecent assault

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. - April 11, 2011

District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman says Dr. Arie Oren, a doctor at Conshohocken Weight Control located at 100 West 3rd Avenue in Conshohocken, has been charged with multiple counts of aggravated indecent assault and indecent assault.

"What we learned from the course of this investigation is that Dr. Oren was holding himself out as a weight loss specialist and he was seeing patients in Conshohocken at his office," Ferman said.

Ferman says that between September and December 2010, multiple female patients of Dr. Oren, 65, reported to police that they had been inappropriately touched by Oren during their weight loss sessions.

"They have described his conduct in a manner that can only be described as cavalier, very casual, very loose and comfortable with touching that is highly invasive," Ferman said.

On multiple occasions, police said, Dr. Oren used his hands or a foreign object to touch and penetrate the genitals of his patients.

Bail was set at $100,000 cash, which Oren paid with a certified check and money from his own pocket.

"There is no reason to set bail at $100,000 cash, he's been around for years, worked in Conshohocken, he's not a flight risk; he could have left months ago," his attorney, Richard Winters, said.

"Oren does have a significant history in that he does have a federal conviction from the 90's under the RICO statute, as well as the fact that he's also facing a lifetime as a Megan's Law registrant, so for all those reasons we were certainly asking for a high cash bail in this case," Assistant Montgomery County District Attorney Kate McGill said.

Ferman asks anyone with information about this or other incidents involving Dr. Arie Oren to contact Conshohocken Borough Detectives at (610) 828-4032.
