Police were called out to the scene at York and Garnet streets shortly after 8:30 p.m.
Authorities say a 34-year-old man was shot once in the head and twice in the back.
He was rushed by police to Temple University Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police say a woman was shot once in the left leg.
She was transported to Hahnemann Hospital in critical condition.
No arrests have been made.
