Vermont wants students

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - April 15, 2011

The state of Vermont is looking for high school students who might want to serve on the state Board of Education.

The state is one of the few that allows students to serve as voting members of the board.

High school students who'll graduate in 2013 or later are eligible for the job.

It's a two-year term.

In the first year, the student is a non-voting board member.

But during the second, he or she gets to vote along with the eight adult members of the panel.

Governor Peter Shumlin is urging interested students to apply.
