Delaware city flooding force water rescues, evacuations

DELAWARE CITY, Del. - April 16, 2011

High water forced firefighters to evacuate residents in the Delaware City Trailer park around 10:30pm. Several of the trailers were reported to be under water.

Rescue workers freed a woman who was trapped in her car for over an hour near the Governor Bacon Health Center in Delaware City. Firefighters report that the car was submerged up to the windows.

Officials say the woman was treated for hypothermia at an area hospital before being released.

Firefighters also rescued an elderly female in a boat after her home was surrounded by high water on Polk Town Place in Delaware City.

And in addition to the water rescues and evacuations, a Delaware City water pump appeared to have failed on Clinton Street near the Delaware River.

Firefighters were called in to pump the water at around shortly after 10:30pm.
