Police: Driver shot at after striking 2 kids

WILMINGTON, Del. - April 20, 2011

It happened around 5:00 p.m. in the 600 block of West 7th Street in Wilmington, Delaware.

Police say a man in his 60's was driving by in a 1992 Buick Park Avenue when two 8-year-old boys on a moped darted out from between two parked cars and collided with the Buick.

The driver stopped his car.

Authorities say shortly thereafter, onlookers apparently angry the driver struck the kids, accident or not, attempted to drag the driver out of the car, at which point the driver got scared and attempted to flee.

That's when one of the onlookers fired six shots at the car.

Police say one of the bullets struck the car.

A short time later the driver pulled his car over and called the police to tell them what had happened.

Police say the driver was not injured.

The two boys were treated and released from a local hospital for minor injuries.

At this time, no charges are being filed against the driver because it appears he was not acting maliciously.

However, police are still looking for the onlooker who fired the six shots.
