Judge: Philly orchestra can keep paying musicians

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - April 20, 2011

Judge Eric Frank in Philadelphia ruled on a series of motions Wednesday in the first court hearing since the orchestra filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection over the weekend.

Lawyers say the motions will allow the orchestra to operate smoothly and continue performing while restructuring its finances.

The bankruptcy filing by the Philadelphia Orchestra, one of the nation's oldest and most renowned, is an apparent first in recent history for a major U.S. orchestra.
