Man killed in Germantown crash identified

GERMANTOWN - April 25, 2011

Police and medics were called to the scene at the intersection of Rittenhouse Street and Wissahickon Avenue at around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police say a red Jeep ran a red light and struck a Buick, resulting in the Jeep to overturn.

67-year-old Lewis Blackston of the 2700 block of Newkirk Street was transported to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The driver, a 55-year-old male, was also transported to Einstein with chest and head injuries; he is listed in critical condition.

Police say they took blood from the driver for alcohol and drug testing, but they won't have the results back for a few days.

The two occupants of the Buick suffered minor injuries and were also transported to Einstein as a precautionary measure.
