Paint the scrap wood and clothespins in whatever pattern would suit the child.
The wood doesn't need to be any particular size, whatever you've got as long as it will hold a piece of paper will do!
Once the elements have dried, add some saw tooth hangers to the backside of the board so you can hang it when it's done.
Use a good quality glue to secure the clothespins in place along the length of the wood. Think of a standard piece of paper when you're deciding on placement.
Let the glue dry and all that's left to do is add some artwork!!
