A BMW slammed into a tree along the on ramp to I-95 southbound from Route 202.
Police responded to the crash around 2 o'clock Saturday morning.
When they arrived, the driver was already dead in the wreckage.
Firefighters had to cut the car in half to free a trapped passenger. The passenger is hospitalized in serious condition.
The driver -- believed to be a man in his thirties -- has not been identified.
Delaware State Police are investigating the crash.
