Pa. man gets 6 to 12 years in crash that killed 2

Twenty-one-year-old Mike Giovannelli of Bensalem wept in Bucks County Court as he apologized to the victims' parents.

Police said Giovannelli was speeding in Penndel on Aug. 14 and ignored an officer's instruction to pull over before crashing into a brick wall, killing 18-year-old passengers Thomas Ritchie and Sean Smalley. Sixteen-year-old Kiefer Pickard was injured. He told police the three had been begging Giovannelli to slow down before the crash.

Giovannelli pleaded guilty in February to vehicular homicide and other counts.

The (Doylestown) Intelligencer says Pickard said in court Thursday that he has forgiven Giovannelli. But Smalley's mother, Diane, said Giovannelli "ruined all our lives."
