Gay student claims harassment at Christian college

GRANTHAM, Pa. - May 9, 2011

Messiah College freshman Isaiah Thomas tells The Patriot-News of Harrisburg he had items stolen and received a death threat on Facebook over his sexual orientation. He says one professor also called him "an abomination" in class.

College Provost Randy Bassinger says the school investigated Thomas' claims and, in some cases, referred his complaints to police. Bassinger says he cannot release the findings of the investigations.

Thomas tells the paper he was also not told about the "Community Covenant" that students are required to sign. The covenant prohibits homosexual behavior.

The Patriot-News reported Monday that Thomas plans to transfer at the end of the semester.
