I asked my daughters to make their lunches and my 8-year-old announced that she checked with the other kids in the class and NO ONE has to make their own lunch!
I've blogged a lot about trying to get my kids to take more responsibility so we can work as a team to keep our house running. Needless to say, I have been met some sizeable resistance - not the least of which came with my daughter polling other 8-year-olds in her class!
My reaction? I told her I don't care if the other kids in school grow up to be lazy, she's going to help out and make her own sandwich.
Fortunately, I came in to work today and found support online with the experts! Scholastic.com proclaims, "As soon as kids can open the refrigerator door and make a sandwich, they're old enough to make their lunches for school". They even have some healthy options that kids may like.
