Leaking roof prompts evac at Bryn Mawr nursing home

BRYN MAWR - May 16, 2011

Fire officials say they were called out to the Brighten Nursing Home in Bryn Mawr around 2:00 Monday morning. When they arrived they found arching wires on the second floor and smoky conditions in the building.

Officials moved the 49 patients located on the second floor to the first floor due to what they have called "a serious roof problem with water coming into the building". Officials then decided to move all the patients out of the building as a precautionary safety measure until they say repairs can be completed.

The Southeastern Pennsylvania Task Force is on location with mobile hospitals to treat any patients who might require treatment on the ground during this process. However, at this time that has not been necessary.

Officials say they hope to have all 123 people relocated to nearby Delaware and Montgomery County facilities by the day's end.
