NJT bus slams into building in Barnegat Twp.

BARNEGAT TWP., N.J. - May 17, 2011

It happened just past 6:00 a.m. on the 300 block of Route 9 (Main Street), near Bay Avenue.

According to police, the New Jersey Transit commuter bus carrying eight passengers was traveling northbound on Route 9 when it veered off the left side of the road, sheering a telephone pole and striking a business.

Wires came down making it difficult for medics to get to the injured. However, the two injured are said to have only suffered minor injuries.

NJ Transit spokeswoman Courtney Carroll tells the Associated Press that the bus hit the porch of the two-story structure and did not go through the glass company on the ground floor. The business was unoccupied at the time of the crash.

Police have not yet released word on what caused the driver to lose control of the bus. The investigation continues.
