The Pa. Ballet presents 'La Fille Mal Gardee"

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - May 22, 2011

Dancers are now hard at work rehearsing for the ballet, an uplifting and cheeky tale of love set in simple country life.

Roy Kaiser, Artistic Director of the Pennsylvania Ballet said, "It's a wonderful piece. If you want a first experience where you'll be able to understand completely what's going on and you'll be entertained and you'll see incredible choreography and you'll laugh along the way, this is the ballet to see."

It's the story of a wealthy farmer's daughter who falls for a handsome young farm worker. But the young woman's mother arranges for her to marry the dimwitted son of a rich vintner instead.

"It's a little boy meets girl and a little trouble ensues but boy ends up with girl at the end. It's ok for me to give away that ending. And there's dancing chickens," added Kaiser.

The opening scene is set in a barnyard with five dancing chickens. There are plenty of other props as well, from dancing men with sticks.

"And it's very entertaining. It's good choreography, very funny, and people should come out and see it, " said Kaiser.

The Ballet runs at the Academy of Music from June 2nd through the 11th. Go to http://paballet.org for show times and tickets.
