Local fans prepare for Oprah's farewell

RITTENHOUSE SQUARE - May 25, 2011

After 25 years of the Oprah Winfrey Show, it was all coming to an end Wednesday afternoon. That's when the 4,561st and last episode will air. And even fans who weren't going to be home to watch were making arrangements.

"I do have a DVR, and I have been taping," said Maryanne Schofield of Southwest Philadelphia. "I'm going to miss Oprah."

Fans told Action News how after all this time they think of Oprah as a friend and inspiration, both for the many people she has helped and for her tremendous accomplishments. There are expectations for a grand Grand Finale.

"I'm sure it's going to be emotional, spectacular inspiration all over the world, especially for women," said Cheryl Lee of Sharon Hill, Pa.

"She's just a really good person," said Gloria Caplan of Northeast Philadelphia. "She does a lot for everybody."

"She perseveres," said Carolyn Kell of Rittenhouse Square. "You have to have that drive and commitment. I just wonder how she keeps it going. You know, for all those years, that energy."

The show has been a fixture for so long, Action News found one man who is not sure what his mother will do without her standing Oprah afternoon appointment with Oprah. But we had an idea for him.

"I guess she doesn't have anything to do at 4 o'clock," Cal Louden of South Philadelphia told us. So we suggested she watch Action News at four beginning tomorrow afternoon. "That will work," he smiled.

The last broadcast of the Oprah Winfrey Show airs at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday May 25th on 6ABC.
