Suspect ID'd in murder of North Phila. store clerk

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - May 27, 2011 Philadelphia Police have issued an arrest warrant in connection with a deadly shooting early yesterday at a North Philadelphia convenience store.

The suspect is identified as Quasheam Richburg, 20, of the 2500 block of Ridge Drive.

Police say he is wanted for the murder of 50 year Moustafa Shaker during the robbery early Thursday morning inside Trax Food Store at 1204 North Front Street.

"The whole police department out there looking for him," said Captain James Clark.

The murder was caught on surveillance video, and authorities credit releasing the surveillance video and good detective work for the quick identification.

Mustafa Shaker was the father of two teenagers. His brother told Action News that he moved to philadelphia from Egypt in 1993.

Shaker was working the overnight shift as usual at Trax Foods in North Philadelphia just before 3:00am Thursday morning when surveillance footage shows Richburg and another man coming into the store and demanding money.

When Shaker wouldn't open the register, the man seen in the surveillance video holding a long rifle shot him in the head.

"The employee puts his hands up, actually backing away, the only he says is, 'I'm not going to open up the register, and with that fires two shots from sawed off shot-gun at a close range," explains Captain Clark.

Richburg is considered armed and dangerous.

"He lives in area of 25th and Ridge Avenue and frequents Johnson Homes area," Captain Clark said.

Police say they have leads on the second man, but not enough yet for a warrant.

Tips helped identify Richburg, and they're hoping more will help lead to his capture. Anyone with information is asked to call the Philadelphia Police Homicide Unit at 215-686-3334 or at 911.
