The incident occurred at approximately 1:15 p.m. as Nicholas Schrader, 16, was operating a Honda dirt bike and was traveling eastbound on a dirt access road approximately a quarter mile east of Rt. 72.
Police say Schrader's dirt bike collided almost head-on with a Yamaha dirt bike that was traveling westbound on the same access road and which was being operated by Cody J. Kegelman, 14.
Both riders were thrown from their motor bikes.
Authorities believe that the operators were initially unable to see each other due to a small hill crest.
Cody Kegelman was transported from the scene by EMS to the Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead. His body was turned over to the medical examiner's office where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.
Nicholas Schrader was also transported to the Christiana Hospital by EMS where he is being treated for serious injuries.
Both operators were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
This crash remains under investigation at this time.
