Man, teen girl charged in Del. residential burglary

MILLSBORO, Del. - June 1, 2011

Officers responded to the 34000 block of S. Taylor Drive in the Pot-Nets Creekside development to investigate a burglary complaint. Upon surveying the residence officers say, they discovered damaged furniture, broken glass and missing food inside the residence.

The 59-year-old victim told police that they suspected an acquaintance as being the perpetrators in the crime. However, a nearby resident told officers that they saw two individuals just outside the victim's residence. The neighbor said he invited the couple into his residence due to the heat, and that he believed them to still be inside.

Officers then entered the neighbor's residence to discover 20-year-old Michael Daday and a 17-year-old girl, both of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, hiding in a closet. Daday and the teen were promptly taken into custody.

Making matters worse, police say Daday provided Troopers with a false name and signed documents using the fraudulent name. Troopers discovered Daday's true identity when a computer inquiry revealed he was a fugitive from Northampton County Sheriff's Office in Pennsylvania.

Then, while in custody in Delaware, Daday attempted to escape. However he was apprehended after being unable to exit the secure building.

Daday and the 17-year-old teen are both charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy and criminal mischief. Daday was additionally charged with criminal impersonation, forgery and attempted escape.

Daday was arraigned and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institute in lieu of $5,000 secured bond. The 17-year-old teen was released to the custody of a parent/guardian.
