It's making a comeback for women going through childbirth.
It fell out of favor several decades ago in favor of higher-tech methods called epidurals.
But interest is growing again.
A number of reputable hospitals, including the University of San Francisco, and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center are now using it. And Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee has begun offering it, too.
It's much easier and less expensive to administer than epidurals, because it doesn't require an anesthetist.
It can also be used late into labor.
Laughing gas won't eliminate labor pain, but will take the edge off.
