Montco cop charged with stealing morphine

PLYMOUTH TWP., Pa. - June 2, 2011

The Plymouth Township Police and the Montgomery County D.A. said that former Whitemarsh Township Officer Dominic Venezia has been arrested.

Investigators say it all began on May 5th when officials from the Plymouth Ambulance Company noticed some morphine was missing.

Only a limited number of people were assigned key cards to access the office where the morphine was kept, investigators said.

So, police placed a hidden camera in the office and the resulting footage allegedly showed Venezia taking the drugs.

The D.A.'s office said Venezia admitted to investigators that he had a drug problem.

Whitemarsh Township Police officials say Venezia is no longer employed as a police officer.

Venezia was arraigned and bail was set at $5,000. He has a preliminary hearing on June 9th.
