Residents help crews battle Pa. hay fires

Crews battled hay fires in New Garden Township, Chester County on June 2, 2011.

Several hundred bales of hay caught fire in New Garden Township.

Crews were called around 12:45 p.m. to Old Limestone Road for a report of fire.

Shortly after they responded, another hay fire started at Cooper Road.

Residents used hoses from their own yards to assist firefighters.

The fires were apparently being spread by high winds onto neighbors' yards.

The flames were placed under control at 3:07 p.m.

It is still not clear what caused the fires.
