The Game Commission reported Friday that an animal blamed for attacking a couple on Wednesday and a child on Thursday tested positive for rabies.
Officials say the beaver bit a husband and wife who were fishing on Wednesday in Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia.
A beaver bit a child in the same area on Thursday as she was with her father.
"They observed it a little bit and then he tried to poke it with fishing rod. It turned around and came after them," Czech said.
Wildlife officials later captured and put down a beaver about 500 yards from where the child was attacked.
Authorities searched the vicinity for hours on Thursday night attempting to locate and move other area beavers, but they couldn't find any.
They're telling people to stay out of the creek from Bustleton Avenue to Axe Factory Road and on keep to the trails throughout the weekend.
Folks who were out in the park on Friday were surprised by the news.
"My daughters do go down there so I would make sure they are more careful or, maybe, not let them go," said Yvonne Giorgio.
"I'm stunned to hear about something like this. I'm going to start wearing long pants!" said Robert Klinger.
"If you stay up on the trails, you should be fine," Czech said.
This comes after an incident in late April in which a rabid beaver was found in the White Clay Creek area of Chester County.
Pennsylvania's most recent rabies fatality was a 12-year-old Lycoming County boy who died in 1984.
